Here’s Jean’s winning ride:

I rode in the Cruise the Creek ride in Escondido. Before the event, I thought that it would be a good training ride for Bike the Coast. It was a nice 8 mile ride, and I finished it rather quickly. I wore my BTC jersey and got so many compliments  on it. While waiting for my friends to finish the ride, a few people approached me and asked me about the Bike the Coast event. I told them it was a very fun and enjoyable ride along the coast and pointed them to your website for more information. Since riding my first BTC last November, positive things have been happening for me such as fun training rides and meeting new people.  So this post is not so much about my training rides but more about the happy, positive things that are happening to me in preparation of Bike the Coast.

I did the 50 miler last year and it was the BEST ride I did all year. I am coming back this year to do it again!
My wife had so much fun helping out at the finish line she is going to do it again.
I am back to 100 mile training weeks after getting my second hip replacement in January.

I started to train for the 50 mile ride.  I did a 22.78 mile ride in Los Angeles from Legg Lake towards irwindale and back to Legg Lake.  Felt amazing and can’t wait for my next bike session.  I am supplementing my bike commute I used to do with gym sessions 5 days a week and now only biking on the weekends.  When I started biking I was at around 320lbs and now I am at 270 and plan on getting to around 230 by the Bike the Coast event.

About Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast

Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast is a bicycle ride with a choice of 7, 15, 25, 50 and 100-mile rides starting and finishing with food, fun and music at the Oceanside Pier on Saturday, Nov. 2. The cycling courses include the San Luis Rey Bike Trail and San Diego’s North County beaches of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar. Proceeds from the ride support the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition — www.sdcbc.org — a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to making bicycling better in greater San Diego. Five Riders that Rock!

Jocelyn: I’ve been riding different routes and distances in preparation for Bike the Coast. Due to wear and other damage, my wheelset is in need of replacement. I could not believe my eyes when I found an ad with someone selling a new set of Giant p-SL1 wheels with Giant P-R3 tires for $50. Yes, I said $50. And no, they were not stolen. You don’t need to call the cops. It’s legit. New wheels/tires on my beloved Bike is such a revitalizing feeling. I took these wheels on their innagural ride this morning on the 125 from Birch to the 905 and back. Maybe I didn’t ride faster but I sure felt like I did. I’m definitely ready for Nov 3rd. A glimmer gear jersey would make my dusk winter rides safer also. (Smiley face).

NELSON: Along with torrey pines hill repeats another ride for this week to prepare for my first century and to have variety in my training is racing in the “black mountain enduro” sponsored by racers & chasers. the last MTB race i did was in 2002 was the “rainy season race series” sponsored by halom tano’ biking club in guam.

this race was an awesome experience with technical aspects and good amount of speed involved. descending was with out a doubt, fun. climbing to the descent . . . not so much.

i must admit though i had my share of “falls” but fortunately was able to walk away with just a few bumps and bruises.

RICHARD: Rode the Santa Barbara Century on 10-20…100 miles with 9000 feet of vertical. Was 35th in overall for KOM challenge, which was a 7 mile climb up Gibraltar road. Was also on the bike on Tuesday and road with our cycling group (Team Broadcom) for a lunch ride and rode 20 miles with 1800+ feet of vertical around the Newport Beach area: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/236507070

LORIE M:  Riding in the hilly city of Canyon Lake, addicted to Strava, achieved some personal bests, and some QOM’s! Woohoo! Can’t wait to ride on Nov. 3, last year’s event was my first 50 mile organized ride. Many, many thanks to John Howard for his training plans!t!)

Five Riders that Rock!

Aaron:  (ride entry)Did a ride I previously would have thought impossible with a great group of Clydesdale’s and Athena’s up glendora mountain road to Mt Baldy Village and back. 43 miles and 5300ft of elevation gain all with people who would not be described as cyclists, let alone climbers!

JIM M: (t-shirt)We are looking forward to our first participation in this ride. We regularly have dinner at 333 Pacific, so we feel at home in Oceanside. 

CHRISTIAN-SYLVIA: I did a ride known as (Sc Velo Epic). It starts in Montery, leading you through Big Sir and down the coast. You end up in San Simeon with completing 7500+ feet of climbing and 100miles. O did I mention this was day one! The second part of this ride leads you down the coast through some windy windy areas to Lompoc. The 2nd day consisted of 4500′ + and another 100miles. Now with these two days sounding hard enough. I forgot to mention, The lead group was Cat 1 & 2 riders. The first day was completed with a wopping 20.1mph avg. The 2nd day was 19.4mph avg. (uggg it hurt) Here is the link to day one and day two. Jennifer F:  JENNIFER F: (Rudy)For the love of cycling, I joined a team of go getters exercising in the great outdoors enjoying the beach side life… I accomplished my first 35 miles! What an awesome feeling this is… The joy you get with cycling is such a prize itself…Cycling usually towards Playa Del Rey…then on this particular first longest of my cycling, I looked back…that’s Paso Verdes – I made it there! Cycling to Marina Del Rey from Playa Del Rey then back again to Playa Del Rey towards Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach … then on the pathway roadside to cycling path and roadside again to & fro Paso Verdes –amazing view from uphill looking down the beachside full of surfers awaiting the waves… then, few minutes later…downhill & curves from Paso Verdes..One of the best yet with my love for cycling.

Cara C:  (hat) On Saturday I rode with 7 other ladies to celebrate the grand opening of a new women’s bicycle shop/boutique. We had a fantastic ride and enjoyed the day. On Sunday I rode with a women’s bicycling club in Playa Del Rey. I love riding and enjoy socializing with all bicycle enthusiasts!!
